Emir Sanusi Barred From Visiting Cyprus For Diplomatic Reasons
The Emir of Kano and former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Muhammadu Sanusi II has been barred by Nigerian Ambassador to Turkey, Amb. Ilyasu Audu Paragalda from entering Turkish Repulblic of Northern Cyprus.
This was following the Emir’s planned visit to give a lecture at the Eastern Mediterranean University, Cyprus on the 15th of March.
The Nigerian Ambassador to Turkey giving reasons for his actions stated that Emir Sanusi’s request to the country was turned down based on diplomatic reasons. According to him, Northern Cyprus is not safe for Royal Highness..
The reason is Also because Northern Cyprus is a non-recognized country therefore not a safe place.”
This stirred up reactions from Nigerian students in Northern Cyprus, querying why a Nigerian Leader would be stopped from visiting Nigerians for academic purposes whereas the Ambassador had kids studying in North Cyprus under a scholarship scheme granted by the university. Daily Post
