55-year-old rapes neighbour’s daughter to death in Katsina

The police in Katsina State have arrested a 55-year-old house manager, Abdullahi Sani, and charged him before a Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping a three-year-old daughter of his neighbour to death.

Sani, alias Maiaya, has thereafter been remanded in the prison custody pending when his case would come up for mention before the court on April 8, 2018.

Punch correspondent learnt that the victim’s father, Ibrahim Abdullahi, of Jabiri Quarters, Funtua area, reported the incident at the Central Police Station, Funtua, on October 12, 2017, leading to Sani’s arrest.

It was gathered that Sani and the victim’s parents were residing in the same house in Funtua.

The Police First Information Report on the incident revealed that Sani allegedly lured the victim into a nearby uncompleted building, closed her mouth and raped her.

The victim reportedly died while being raped.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, told the court on Thursday that Sani’s offence was contrary to sections 283 and 221 of the Penal Code. Ado, however, said investigation was still in progress in the case.

He pleaded with the court for a new date for the case to be mentioned.

The magistrate, Hajiya Fadila Dikko, granted the prosecutor’s request and adjourned the case till April 8, 2018, for mention.

She, however, directed that Sani should remain in the prison custody till then.

Meanwhile, a 29-year-old man, Kabir Attah, of Dabai village in the Danja Local Government Area of the state, has also been remanded in the prison custody till April 17, 2018.

Attah, alias Janwuya, is being tried for “house trespass and attempt to commit armed robbery.”

The police told the magistrate that Attah, armed with an axe and machete, forcefully entered a house in the village, with the intention of robbing the occupant of the house, one Salisu Abdullahi, before the latter overpowered him and raised the alarm, which subsequently led to his arrest.
