An 18-year-old Junior Secondary School 3 student identified as Ebenezer Istifanus,was reportedly arraigned in a Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court, Abuja by tyhe police, over the alleged kidnap of his eight-year-old cousin named Innocent Sani.
According to report, the prosecutor, Mr. Kufreabasi Ebong, who alleged that the defendant kidnapped Sani on the 18th of December, 2017, disclosed that the defendant demanded a N40million ransom, but was eventually paid N160,000.
He further disclosed that the defendant enticed the little boy out of the custody of his guardians, thereby committing an offence that contravened Section 273 of the Penal Code.
Istifanus, who however, denied committing the offence, saying that he was wrongly accused, said he was a Junior Secondary School 3 pupil of Government Science School, Wamba, Nasarawa State smd he was only fixing electrical faults in the shop of a former neighbour when he was arrested by men of the Nigeria Police Force.
The magistrate, Mr. Emenisi Ebiwari, who described the case as “delicate” because it involved members of the same family ordered that the defendant be remanded in police custody while he adjourned the case till the 1st of February, 2018, for further hearing.
