Judge Handling Dino Melaye’s Attempted Assassination Case Dies During Cross Over Service To 2018

The judge handling the case of attempted assassination of Senator Dino Melaye, Justice Aromeh Benson Akogu, has reportedly died.

Akogu, who is the Kabba Resident High Court Judge in Kogi State, died in Anyigba on Sunday, 31st December, 2017 at about 11:40pm during a watch night service to 2018.

The News Agency of Nigeria quotes a reliable source close to the family of the late judge as saying he (Akogu) had vowed not to sleep before the cross-over to 2018.

The source also disclosed that the judge was not sick nor showed any symptoms of ill health before his sudden death.

His wife, Vicky, who confirmed the death, said the late judge and a one-time Director of Public Prosecution in the state, was hale and hearty before his sudden death.

She said that she watched her husband’s death like a movie and could hardly believe it.

Commenting on the incident from Akogu family house in Idah, the Chief Registrar of the State High Court, Yahaya Ademu, said the body had been deposited at the Grimmard Hospital Mortuary, Anyigba.

The late judge, said to be in his late 50’s was handling the case of an attempted assassination of the senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, until his death.
